diastasis-1Are you unhappy with your Mommy Tummy? Do you want solutions?

Have you been checked for something called Diastasis Recti?

Diastasis Recti is a separation in the rectus abdominis muscles that occurs in 66% of woman in third trimester of pregnancy. It can be the reason moms feel that they can’t lose the belly post baby.

I know first hand that it can go undiagnosed. Mine was for 9 months after the birth of my son! As well, if it isn’t addressed after your first pregnancy it can get worse after future pregnancies.  This experience made me passionate about getting out in the community, educating moms and also making sure moms in my clinic are screened for Diastasis Recti. When this separation happens, it can have significant long-term consequences to the joints of your low back and pelvic girdle as well as symptoms of incontinence postpartum.

diastasis checkYou can check yourself but if you are unsure, make sure to ask your health care provider as there are many different degrees or severity of separation.

If you think you may have it or are diagnosed with Diastasis Recti, You must avoid all exercises or movements that will cause your abdominal wall to bulge out (like up dog or hands and knees exercises) or exercises that use your abdominal muscles to flex the upper back or spine off the floor (such as crunches, bicycles or the pilates Roll Back)

Core musclesIt is important to ensure your deep core muscle system (Transverse Abdominis, diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles) are all functioning properly and are well coordinated.
